All Uncharted 4 Multiplayer DLC Will Be Unlockable By Playing

by Mike Futter on May 02, 2016 at 04:29 AM

With just a week to go before Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End launches on PlayStation 4, Naughty Dog has unveiled details about its approach to DLC. You’ll be able to earn everything just by playing.

You’ll earn the in-game relics currency just by playing. Those can be spent on chests that have weapons, boosters, and cosmetic items. You won’t get the same unique item twice, so cosmetic items and weapons you already own won’t take up valuable space in subsequent chests. You can purchase Uncharted points with real money that can be used to get more chests, should you choose.

New maps and modes will be rolled out along the way. Those will be available to the entire community at the same time in order to keep players together.

At launch, there will be team deathmatch, command (capture points), plunder (one-flag CTF), and bot matches. More will be added starting this summer.

In addition to two multiplayer DLC add-ons (including guns, boosters, and cosmetics) that are being sold as part of a triple pack, Naughty Dog is planning a single-player expansion. This will be the first such add-on in the Uncharted series.

Uncharted 4 will be out on May 10 for PlayStation 4.

Our Take
I appreciate that developers are trending away from splitting the community. There are some franchises that live and breathe map packs (Call of Duty and Battlefield come to mind). But seeing series like Halo and Uncharted move away from that trend is refreshing, and it gives players a way to jump in later without feeling like they need to play catch-up on DLC packs just to play with friends.
