Minecraft Is Now Available For Samsung Gear VR

by Mike Futter on Apr 27, 2016 at 09:55 AM

Minecraft is becoming the universal app for game devices everywhere. It’s on PC, consoles, mobile devices, and now it’s made its way to virtual reality.

Mojang’s hit sandbox game includes two VR modes. You can either play in a Minecraft cabin while watching the action on a virtual screen or immerse yourself in the world in first-person.

Minecraft Gear VR Edition supports both creative and survival modes. You can use all of the features of Minecraft Pocket Edition, including skins and multiplayer.

It’s available know on the Gear VR store for $6.99. Minecraft is also headed to Oculus Rift and Microsoft’s Hololens.

Our Take
I'm eager to give this a try. Minecraft is a fairly low impact game, and I suspect it translates well to virtual reality. Including the virtual cabin mode is smart for those that need to acclimate or just can't stomach running around Minecraft's blocky terrain in first-person.
