Final Fantasy IX Is Now Available On Steam

by Mike Futter on Apr 14, 2016 at 01:52 AM

Square Enix has been slowly moving its Final Fantasy catalog to PC. While not every re-release is a homerun (we’re still sad about that Final Fantasy VI aesthetic), there are some reasons to be happy.

Final Fantasy IX is out today on Steam, and it appears to have made the trip from PlayStation 1 just fine. Originally released in 2000, Square Enix says the game has sold more than 5 million copies.

You can pick it up for $16.79 now through April 20. After that, the price jumps to $20.99.

If it’s more contemporary Final Fantasy you want, check out our coverage hub for this month’s issue. We’ve got an extensive look at Final Fantasy XV, which will be out later this year.

Our Take
I missed Final Fantasy IX entirely, after having been soured by Final Fantasy VIII (ugh, I really dislike the Draw system). At least I came back for the excellent Final Fantasy XII. I'm glad I have another chance at this.
