Diablo III Lead World Designer Leonard Boyarsky Joins Obsidian

by Mike Futter on Apr 13, 2016 at 09:59 AM

Leonard Boyarsky, who was most recently the lead world designer on Diablo III, has joined RPG-centric studio Obsidian. Boyarsky’s credits also includes one of gaming’s best: Fallout.

Boyarsky served as a lead artist on Interplay’s first entry in the franchise. He worked closely with Tim Cain and Jason Anderson on Fallout 2’s gameplay and story, also.

He left Interplay in 1998 to form Troika Games. There Boyarsky, Cain, and Anderson released Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Troika closed in 2005.

Obsidian hasn’t announced exactly what Boyarsky is working on, but the studio did recently announce a new project. Obsidian and Paradox are teaming up for an RPG called Tyranny that puts you in the service of an overlord that has wreaked havoc on the land.

You can read more about Tyranny in our GDC preview.

Our Take
I’ve poured countless hours into Diablo III and love the world that Boyarsky helped to create. This is a great get for Obsidian, especially if he’ll be working on Tyranny. My interest is certainly piqued.
