Forza 6: Apex Will Run At 4K And 60 Frames If You Have The PC To Power It
Microsoft has come under fire for its Universal Windows Platform (UWP) approach recently. The company used this week's Build event to do a bit of damage control and messaging to combat some of the negative PR, though.
Part of that was talking more about Forza Motorsport 6: Apex and the fact that the franchise's future games will be on both Xbox One and PC. The Windows 10 version will run at 60 frames-per-second and 4K (if you've got the rig and monitor to support it).
While there is clearly trepidation about UWP as a closed platform and the impact that it may have on the marketplace, Microsoft is talking up the benefits. These include easy porting between Xbox One and PC that can reduce effort and open applications to new audiences.
This isn't likely to assuage people like Epic's Tim Sweeney, though. The two sides of this debate will likely be continuing this debate for quite some time.
As for end-users, this is another Xbox One game that is now just a console exclusive instead of a full one. This is a good move for software sales, and Microsoft also has a lot of skin in the PC game. But there is speculation that this might hurt console sales over the long term. Phil Spencer disagrees, and I suspect consumers will continue to seek out living room console gaming experiences.
