Binding Of Isaac Creator Announces The Legend Of Bum-Bo, Places Mew-Genics On Hold

by Kyle Hilliard on Mar 23, 2016 at 03:22 PM

Edmund McMillen, creator of The Binding of Isaac and co-creator of Super Meat Boy, announced a new game while essentially cancelling another.

The new game, The Legend of Bum-Bo is being co-created by McMillen with James Id. The game will be a randomly generated turn based puzzle RPG with mysterious ties to The Binding of Isaac. McMillen is promising more teases to come soon on the Binding of Isaac blog.

Alongside this new project, McMillen is still (supposedly) working on the mobile game, Super Meat Boy Forever, but the other project from Team Meat (comprised of Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes), Mew-Genics, is on hold indefinitely. McMillen confirmed Mew-Genics' uncertain future to Eurogamer saying, "I'm unsure of its future but there is a chance we will attempt to revamp it in a few years with a new design of mine that will push it in a new direction that will hopefully make it more exciting for both of us to work on. But sadly till then it's not gunna happen."

Last year on our Game Informer Show podcast, Team Meat said Super Meat Boy 2 is something the duo is considering. For some hands-on with Super Meat Boy Forever, head here.

Our Take
McMillen always seem to be stretching himself thin, between original projects and ports of his games to other platforms, but his output is consistently high-quality. Personally, I am more interested in the future of Meat Boy, but I am curious to learn more about this project as well.
