Former Bungie Composer Marty O’Donnell, best known for his musical contributions to Halo and Riven sat down with IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey to discuss Bungie's third-person fantasy game that never released. Gypsum was in development after the release of Halo, and although it was left on the cutting room floor, O’Donnell still reminisces over what the game could have been.

The mythical fantasy game was cancelled after Bungie absorbed all of its teams into Halo 2’s development. If it had been released, Gypsum would have been the first fantasy title of Bungie's since 1998's Myth II: Soulblighter. A playable prototype of the game existed with O'Donnell's score and sound effects attached to it.

O'Donnell left Bungie in April 2014 after being dismissed "without cause." The matter was resolved in September 2015 as the studio and its former employee settled the matter. You can check out the entire interview over on IGN.

Our Take
Although Halo 2 is a highly regarded game, I still would’ve loved seeing Bungie’s other ideas come to fruition. It’s a shame to hear that a unique idea completely dissolved in the interest of making another break-out hit, and the developer continually made the same flavor of sci-fi shooter after that.
