Many Preview Members Can Now Buy Backward Compatible Xbox 360 Games On Xbox One

by Mike Futter on Mar 07, 2016 at 10:09 AM

Microsoft has pushed another update for Xbox One preview members. When this month’s build went live, it wasn’t feature complete. Something new has been added in an update, though.

One of the things missing from the backward compatibility feature was the ability to purchase Xbox 360 games on Xbox One. You can now do so, meaning you don’t have to use the website or your Xbox 360 to acquire new 360 games just play them on your Xbox One.

This build does remove the Achievements snap app. It’s unclear if this is temporary or if Microsoft is transitioning to the guide-based view.

This update also fixes a green screen issue when watching video and occasional flickering when navigating the dashboard. If your console is set to instant-on mode, you should have it already (if you’ve been selected, some of you may not be). If you don’t use instant-on mode, when you next turn on your console you’ll be prompted to download it.

Our Take
Being able to purchase Xbox 360 games on Xbox One will complete the backward compatibility feature. It also means you can easily search for games to find out if they are part of the program yet instead of guessing. That alone is worth quite a bit.
