Niantic Games recently cancelled a GDC talk about its upcoming augmented reality adventure, but Pokémon fans shouldn't worry about the fate of the game. Would-be pokémasters can now sign up for the beta-like field test, but unless you live in Japan you might need to be a little more patient.
"The Pokémon Company and Niantic will be inviting users to field test Pokémon GO in Japan later this month," read Niantic's official statement. "The Pokémon GO field test program will give a limited number of users early access to the app. These users will have the opportunity to share early feedback and help improve the Pokémon GO experience for everyone prior to public launch."
Unfortunately, these first tests will be limited to Japan, but Niantic plans to do more Pokémon GO field test in other countries later down the road, so if you miss out on this one you might still get to participate at a later date. Our Take
This is exciting because Pokémon Go is one of the more interesting Pokémon projects of late. It's unfortunate that the field test are only taking place in Japan at the moment, but that also makes sense.
