Ok, Yeah, A Game Jam, But This One Is On A Boat And The Host Is Amazing

by Mike Futter on Mar 03, 2016 at 11:31 AM

When executive editor Andrew Reiner told me I absolutely needed to watch a pitch video for a game jam, I was confused. We don’t often cover game jams. They happen all the time. No, dear reader. Not like this they don’t.

Admittedly, we can’t attest to the quality of the games that will come from this jam. It hasn’t happened yet.

We can, however, strongly urge that you watch this video. Just get the kids out of the room. Thar be f-bombs in these waters.

The affable host of the Ship It Game Jam is Simon Darveau, co-founder of Spearhead Games (Tiny Brains). There are 500 tickets available for the event taking place aboard the Cavalier Maxim out of Montreal.

For those who are new to the game jam concept, groups of developers come together to build a game in 48 hours. Teams of four or five are recommended, but they can be as small as a solo effort and as large as eight developers.

If you’re a developer and are interested in participating, you can get your tickets here. If you are a gamer, the event will be streamed and you can pre-order all of the created projects for $30.

Our Take
I would love to be a fly on a wall during this event. I imagine the setting and the infectious enthusiasm of the host are going to result in some bizarre and enjoyable projects.
