No Man’s Sky Launches On June 21, $60 Retail Release

by Mike Futter on Mar 03, 2016 at 04:02 AM

No Man’s Sky finally has a release date. Hello Games’ expansive universe exploration game will be arriving this June.

We’ll have a more complete preview shortly, but for now, here are the basics. No Man’s Sky will be released at retail and on PlayStation Network, and it’s a full-priced, $60 game.

There's also an $80 collector's edition coming to console. It includes a comic, steelbook case, digital items, an art book, and a PS4 dynamic theme.

It will also be out that day on Steam and GOG. But if you're all-in on Hello Games' galactic vision, you can nab a $150 limited edition from IAm8Bit.

These are limited to 10,000 units and come with a hand-painted ship replica, traveler pin, diorama display backdrop, and a mystery item to be revealed at launch.

You’ll be able to start exploring the stars and claiming planets for your own on June 21.

Our Take
There was much ado about the price of No Man’s Sky, but hopefully as people recognize that it’s a full retail game that will quiet down. There is a market expectation about price that hasn’t yet caught up to the changes in how we purchase and consume games. Putting No Man’s Sky in a box shouldn’t make a difference, but I suspect it will with some gamers.
