Confirmed: Pokémon Sun And Moon Arrive Holiday 2016

by Mike Futter on Feb 26, 2016 at 03:04 AM

Update: During this morning's Pokémon Nintendo Direct, the publisher confirmed Sun and Moon will arrive on 3DS this holiday.

Original Story (February 25, 2016 @ 8:54 a.m. Central):

Two new trademarks filed in the European Union may hint at announcements for tomorrow’s Pokémon Nintendo Direct. Notably, the trademarks for Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon (with the logos above accompanying) appear to have been filed by Nintendo and not The Pokémon Company.

The Pokémon Company produces a wide range of products based on the pocket critters. Trading cards, cartoons, plush toys, and more can be found on store shelves.

However, the fact that Nintendo allegedly registered these marks with the Office For Harmonization of the Internal Market, which handles trademarks and designs, is telling. If accurate (and not a false filing), then the chance of these being related to video games is high.

We’ve reached out to Nintendo and we’ll update should we receive a response. Tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct is scheduled for 7 a.m. Pacific / 10 a.m. Eastern.

Our Take
While we’re approaching this cautiously, the pieces point to an imminent announcement. With a Nintendo Direct focused exclusively on Pokémon due tomorrow and the schedule for new games being right, if this is real, it wouldn’t be surprising.
