The Division right around the corner, much of our discussion has been about how the in-game viral outbreak cripples New York City. But today, Ubisoft reminds us that in an age of easily accessible transportation and unabated communication, containing a disease in one location is no small challenge.

To drive the point home, Ubisoft has created a simulator that predicts how the end of society will unfold. First, you can choose where to begin the collapse. I chose my home address in New Jersey (sorry, neighbors).

In just 26 days, the entire world had been plunged into darkness. The virus spread quickly as I (and so many others), thought air travel was a good idea.

Medical personnel and military were overwhelmed. Governments deteriorated.

So while you’re saving New York City beginning on March 8 in The Division, know that the world outside the Big Apple is probably going to hell, too. Still, if you’re going to go down, go down fighting.

You can play around with the end of civilization with Ubisoft’s Collapse simulator here. For more, check out The Division running at 60 frames-per-second on PC and read up on our impressions of the beta.

Our Take
I’m going to ruin the magic a little bit. Most of our results (attempted by different people) yielded the same sequence, with the total collapse happening 25 or 26 days in. If this kind of thing interests you though, check out Plague, Inc. on mobile devices and Steam. It allows you to customize and evolve your virus to wipe out all of humanity. Cheery stuff!
