Resident Evil 4, 5, And 6 Headed For Current-Gen Consoles

by Mike Futter on Feb 25, 2016 at 04:15 AM

Capcom has announced via the Resident Evil YouTube channel that three more entries in the series are headed to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A new trailer showing off Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 for current-gen consoles can be seen below.

These remakes follow Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0 updated for current-generation and PC. Resident Evil 2 is also getting the remake treatment for the first time.

That just leaves Resident Evil 3 and Code Veronica among the core entries in the series left to be updated. No promises have been made about those, but Capcom has previously stated its intent to remake classic games.

Additionally, sales of the Resident Evil remakes have been strong enough to warrant the effort. Resident Evil 6 will arrive first on March 29. Resident Evil 5 will hit this summer, with Resident Evil 4 dropping last this fall. Each will be priced at $19.99.

Our Take
This is smart business for Capcom, as remake sales have been exceedingly strong. These are likely the easiest of the three games to update for current-gen, while the publisher figures out what direction it wants to take the series. Fans have been clamoring for a seventh core entry that takes the series back to its roots. Until then, updated versions of these three will have to tide us over.
