DeNA’s Transformers: Battle Tactics Shutting Down In May

by Mike Futter on Feb 25, 2016 at 09:12 AM

After little more than a year since launch, DeNA’s Transformers: Battle Tactics has started to shut down. The title will officially cease operation in May.

The mobile strategy game allowed players to field a team of iconic Autobots and Decepticons to play against the AI or other players. Using a variety of skills and transforming at the right time meant the difference between victory and the scrap heap.

For those still playing, you’ve got until May 12 to play. No further updates will be rolled out between now and then. On March 10, you’ll no longer be able to purchase in-game currency, Battle Tactics will be removed from the app store, and the forums will be disabled. On March 11, the grand finale event will begin and run for two months.

Our Take
Despite the free-to-play hooks, this was one of the more engaging mobile titles I enjoyed. I’m a fan of the source material, and the use of transformations, combiner figures, and links to the lore were all great touches. Unfortunately, as usage dwindles and it becomes more expensive to maintain a game (and in this case, the license), business wins out.
