Confirmed: Doom On Xbox One Comes With Backward Compatible Doom I And II

by Mike Futter on Feb 23, 2016 at 08:44 AM

Update: Microsoft has formally listed Doom for pre-purchase on Xbox One. As indicated yesterday, for a limited time you'll get something extra on Microsoft's console.

Purchasing Doom on the Xbox One will get you the original Doom and Doom II (re-released on Xbox 360 via Xbox Live Arcade).

Original Story (February 22, 2016 @ 2:34 p.m. Central)

The Xbox store isn’t quite ready to take your Doom pre-purchases. However, a recently available (and then removed) page on the official website lays out what you’ll get for pulling the trigger.

As with Fallout 4 before it, Bethesda is incentivizing purchases with bundled-in backwards compatible games. This time out, it’s the Xbox Live arcade editions of Doom and Doom II.

A similar offer was discovered for Dark Souls III, following the same pattern of appearance and removal. That was eventually confirmed when pre-purchases went live.

We’ve reached out to Bethesda for comment or confirmation. We’ll update should we receive a response.

Our Take
Given that this pattern has emerged accurately before, I’m feeling like this is likely. However, until it’s confirmed by Microsoft or Bethesda, don’t consider it set in stone. The distance between leaks and formal announcements leave room for change.
