Overwatch Patch 1.0.2 Takes Aim At Balance Issues

by Daniel Tack on Feb 18, 2016 at 01:45 PM

Blizzard's Overwatch is scheduled to hit Xbox One, PS4, and PC  this spring, and a patch rolled out today taking aim at balancing several of the more divisive defensive heroes, once again showing Overwatch is currently a "true" beta, full of massive changes and fixes as the team gets things ready for a (hopefully) balanced launch.

Patch 1.0.2 contains a variety of things, but the major focus is some tweaking and balance changes to two defensive all-stars, the robotic turret-on-demand Bastion and the turret-building "engineer" Torbjörn.

You can check out the full patch notes here.

Our Take
Having been on both sides of the turret-twins, it's great to see Blizzard looking into ways to make these heroes more realistic to deal with, especially looking at solo-queue games where getting the team to work together to take on these powerful defenders can be quite difficult - they don't seem to be much of an issue when coordinated teams go after them. Even though my favorite hero is potentially hit hard by this patch, it stands to highlight that this beta, unlike so many other so-called betas in the industry today which are colorfully named stress tests or just ways to sell early-access, is the real deal - full of important, sweeping changes and significant balance tweaks that need to happen before the 6v6 format heads out to the world beyond the beta.
