Warren Spector To Lead System Shock III Development At Otherside

by Mike Futter on Feb 17, 2016 at 06:20 AM

Warren Spector, who is credited on classics including System Shock, Thief: The Dark Project, and Deus Ex, will be returning to full-time development. Otherside has announced that he is increasing his involvement after as a creative advisor to the studio since its 2014 founding.

Spector currently teaches at the Denius-Sams Gaming Academy at the University of Texas. When the semester is over, he’ll transition to full-time work at Otherside.

His first project will be to continue contributing to Otherside’s first game, Underworld: Ascension. He will then lead production on the recently announced System Shock III.

“I’ve loved working with students as Director of the Denius-Sams Gaming Academy in the University of Texas’ Moody College of Communication,” says Warren. “But when the opportunity to have a bigger role in bringing Underworld Ascendant to life, as well as playing in the System Shock universe once again, helping to bring these games to a 21st century audience, I just couldn’t say no. Working on System Shock was one of the most fulfilling things I’ve done in my career and it’s hard to describe how much I’m looking forward to sharing with players what SHODAN has been up to since the last game was released.”

Underworld Ascendant is due out on PC at the end of 2016. You can see our recent interview with Spector for more information on his past work.

Our Take
This is a huge get for Otherside, and a boon for System Shock fans. I was excited for Shodan’s upcoming return before, but this has me quite hopeful about how that will turn out.
