Buy Quantum Break To Remedy Your Need For Free Alan Wake

by Mike Futter on Feb 11, 2016 at 01:52 AM

One of Microsoft’s biggest releases this spring is getting just a bit larger. The Xbox.com Quantum Break product page indicates that there are opportunities for two additional games bundled in.

Remedy is dishing out Alan Wake for anyone that purchases Quantum Break digitally. It will come with the excellent The Signal and The Writer add-ons. It’s not yet clear if retail copies will offer this bonus.

Those that pre-purchase will also receive Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, originally released as an Xbox Live Arcade game. Both of these are headed for the backward compatibility library and will be playable on Xbox One. The game will also support cross-save, so you can play on one platform and continue on the other.

We’re expecting a new Quantum Break trailer today, and we’ll update as soon as that drops. For more on Quantum Break, check out our coverage hub from the December 2015 issue.

For those that have yet to pick up an Xbox One, a 500GB white console bundled with Quantum Break was announced today. A version with a standard black console will also be available. Both hit retail on March 29, in advance of the game's April 5 release.

Quantum Break has also been announced today for PC. It will arrive on Windows 10 alongside the Xbox One version, and those that pre-purchase the console version get the PC edition free.

Our Take
The backward compatibility bundling is a smart move for Microsoft. It emphasizes a competitive advantage and adds value for digital purchases. Even if Alan Wake comes with retail purchases, the pre-purchase American Nightmare bonus is likely to motivate some buyers to move early.
