Tetsuya Mizuguchi's New RPG Puzzle Game Coming To North America

by Jeff Marchiafava on Feb 09, 2016 at 12:48 PM

Today GameSamba announced it will be bringing the latest game from Rez and Lumines producer Tetsuya Mizuguchi to the U.S.

Announced for Japanese audiences back in 2014, Eighteen is described as an RPG puzzle game for Android and iOS devices. While Eighteen appears to be some variation on the ever-popular tile-matching puzzle genre, GameSamba's announcement says players can recruit hundreds of characters and upgrade them over the course of the game, hopefully offering more depth than the standard match-three fare. GameSamba says that the game will be available this spring, with the first playable build debuting at the SXSW Gaming Expo this March. Check out a few screenshots from the Japanese version of the game in the gallery below to get an idea of the art style.

Our Take
Tile-matching puzzle games are a dime a dozen, but Mizuguchi has proven that he has a knack for creating fun and replayable games. Based on the screens alone, it appears players will be in for a profoundly weird ride, if nothing else.
