Rumor: New Ghostbusters Game In The Works

by Matt Miller on Jan 29, 2016 at 12:00 PM

A recent report indicates that Activision is hard at work on preparing a new full-fledged Ghostbusters game. According to a story in Retail Merchandiser,  Mark Caplan, senior vice president of Sony’s Global Consumer Products, has been pleased with the enthusiasm around the franchise ever since the 2009 video game (and the recent toy line), and there is eagerness to continue to grow the brand.

The article goes on to state that in addition to the Ghostbusters-themed Lego Dimensions set, Activision is currently working on a dedicated game for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and that it would release alongside the upcoming movie. That movie is currently planned for release on July 15, 2016.

We’ve reached out to Activision for comment about the rumor, and we’ll update if we hear more about the potential release.

Our Take
It’s no stretch to think that another Ghostbusters game could be in the works, but if it really exists, it will be interesting to see the form such a game might take. Will it be a movie tie-in using the new cast of all-female Ghostbusters? Or a callback to the original cast of the 80s comedy? Here’s hoping we find out soon.
