Pete Parsons Takes Over As CEO Of Bungie

by Brian Shea on Jan 27, 2016 at 11:37 AM

The studio behind Destiny has a new CEO. Pete Parsons, who has been with Bungie since 2002 – most recently serving as the company's COO – will take over for Harold Ryan, who is stepping down from his role as studio president.

In his first message as CEO of Bungie, Parsons wrote the following:

"I want to personally thank Harold for his friendship, passion, hard work, and dedication in helping make Bungie the great company it is today. As a team, we celebrated many victories and weathered many storms.

To the players of Destiny, I want you to know that my number one priority, and Bungie’s, is and always has been to deliver great games that we can all share together. I believe that Destiny is a one-of-a-kind experience. I also believe you have yet to see our studio’s best work. My new role here at the studio will be entirely focused on fulfilling that promise."

Bungie's most recent release, Destiny: The Taken King, was well-received by players and critics. Although Bungie remains an independent studio, we've reached out to Activision, the publisher of Destiny, for a statement. Should we receive one, we will update this story.

Our Take
Pete Parsons is an excellent choice for the top leadership spot at Bungie. In previous interviews with Game Informer, he has proven a deep knowledge of both the technical infrastructure behind Destiny, as well as a deep enthusiasm for the game itself. The change in leadership at Bungie comes at a time of rumors circulating about a delay of the next full-fledged Destiny game, as well as many fans expressing frustration about a lack of new content in the current release. We’ll be eager to see what changes Parsons makes as he steps up into the role of Bungie’s CEO.
