Galactic Civilizations III’s First Expansion Brings New Races And Mercenaries

by Mike Futter on Jan 27, 2016 at 07:01 AM

The 4X genre (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) continues to thrive, with pillar franchises continuing to fill PC gamers’ desire for domination. One of the most recent shining stars of the genre, Galactic Civilizations III, is about to get even bigger.

The game has been updated a number of times since its 2015 launch. In February, it will get its first major expansion.

The add-on, Mercenaries, will introduce new races and the ability to hire privateers flying more than 70 different ships. Two new factions, the Arceans and the Torians, bring new abilities and skill trees. The latter is the subject of a new campaign.

The $19.99 expansion will be released alongside the free 1.6 update for all players. It will bring visual enhancements, new balancing, and some AI improvements.
