Bungie Tackling Destiny Lag Issues In Iron Banner Matchmaking Update

by Brian Shea on Jan 25, 2016 at 02:44 PM

Bungie has announced that Destiny's Crucible will be receiving some tweaks to the way its matchmaking works. The first update is set to hit on Wednesday in Iron Banner.

The studio says it has struggled to find the right balance between skill and connection quality when matching players against each other. With the new update, more emphasis will be placed on connection quality in order to combat lag issues. The Destiny team does want to reassure players that it will still be using skill levels to ensure that the most competitive matches are happening.

Iron Banner Rift starts on Tuesday at 10 a.m. PST. The matchmaking update will go live 24 hours later at 10 a.m. PST on Wednesday. Bungie says the 24 hour period between the two events will allow the team to analyze two different sets of data to compare performance. Bungie says that if all goes well with this deployment of the new settings, they will be applied to more matchmaking modes in the future.

Our Take
Destiny continues to be a very popular game, but I have heard from those playing that some issues with lag have tainted the experience in recent months. It's good to see Bungie address these issues directly.
