Choose Your Own Adventure In This Clever Super Smash Bros. Melee YouTube Video

by Brian Shea on Jan 18, 2016 at 01:56 PM

A clever YouTuber has created a video allowing you to choose your own paths during a fight in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Over the course of the video, which spans 15:18 seconds if you play it straight through, you are asked to make decisions to determine the outcome of the match. Chances are, your playthrough won't last nearly that long, however.

The TAS (Tool-Assisted Superplay) video uses annotations to jump around the video based on the decisions you make. You step into the role of Fox as he battles his squadmate Falco. Each time a decision point comes up, time slows down and you're asked to click one of the annotation choices that pops up. Based on those decisions, the match can play out in very different ways. For example, teching right instead of left drops you at a different spot in the video and presents new choices for you to complete. The final goal, unsurprisingly, is to come out of the match victoriously.

According to YouTube user Stabby McKniferson, who created and posted the video, there are 17 different pathways you can take to access the 13 different endings. If you'd like to complete the TAS match yourself, you can do so below or on YouTube.
