DC Universe Online Lands On Xbox One This Spring

by Mike Futter on Jan 11, 2016 at 07:50 AM

When Sony Online Entertainment was spun off from the mothership last year, fans had a big question: "Does this mean you aren't limited on console to PlayStation anymore?" The newly rebranded Daybreak Game Studios under then-CEO John Smedley didn't equivocate. Xbox One games were coming.

Today we know which title will be first. DC Universe Online creative director SJ Mueller told us that an Xbox One version of the free-to-play MMO will land this spring.

Daybreak hasn't commented or committed to other titles coming to Xbox One. However, that this is happening is a good sign for Xbox One fans interested in Planetside 2 and H1Z1.

The Xbox One announcement comes during the DC Universe Online fifth anniversary celebration. Daybreak told us that it will be soon be announcing its plans for 2016. For now, the company has shared an infographic looking back at DCUO's first five years.

Our Take
I recently started playing DCUO again after being away since only a few months after launch. The addition of new powers, including Green Lantern-inspired light, atomic blasts, electricity, and more gives players more variety. A crafting system, lairs, guild halls, 20 episodes of story content, and the ability to play as iconic heroes in PvE play have all been part of the game's half-decade of growth.
