UPDATE: PSN Is Back Up After Today's Outage

by Mike Futter on Jan 04, 2016 at 04:13 PM

Update: Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Network is back up and running after today's long outage. According to status.playstation.com, all services are now operating as expected.

Original Story:

We might be past the holiday season, but that doesn’t mean we’re free from outages. The PlayStation Network has been down today, and Sony confirms the outage is widespread.

The problem appears to be affecting sign-in, account creation, account management, playing games, and accessing streaming media. We’ll keep an eye on things and update when there’s more information.

Sony and Microsoft largely skated through the holiday season after two years of Christmas-to-New Year interruptions. Whether Sony’s problems today are due to an attack or run-of-the-mill technical issues is as yet unclear.

Note that an outage report does not mean that every user is affected. It simply means that Sony is aware that there is an issue affecting the service that is impacting some members.
