Shadow Of Mordor Developer Monolith Rallies Around Ill Coworker

by Mike Futter on Dec 23, 2015 at 04:02 AM

Yesterday, Shadow of Mordor developer Monolith Productions spent the day pulling together for one of its own. In May, Executive producer Mike Forgey was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an extremely aggressive form of cancer that causes fast-growing brain tumors.

Since his diagnosis earlier this year, Forgey has been admitted into a trial and underwent a bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy. He continues to fight the disease, but glioblastoma is difficult to treat. Median survival rate from the point of diagnosis is 14.6 months. Two-year survival is 30 percent, with only 10 percent of patients living five years or longer.

On December 22, Monolith gathered its community and friends to stream gameplay and tweet with the hashtag “#ForForgey.” While the official campaign was yesterday, it’s not too late to help out.

Forgey, who also worked on the first two Gears of War games, Fable, and Conker, needs help as the medical bills mount. Friends are in the process of raising $300,000 to assist the family of five.

The campaign lasts through January 24. You can read more about Forgey, his family, and his situation on the YouCaring page.
