Harmonix Is Wiping Rock Band 4 Leaderboards To Combat ‘Gnarly Bug’

by Mike Futter on Dec 23, 2015 at 06:37 AM

Harmonix has announced some fixes to Rock Band 4 coming in January. Unfortunately, the game shipped with a couple of “gnarly bugs,” one of which has upset the integrity of the high score listings.

There is an exploit that allows drummers to double trigger overdrive. This is going to be patched, and improvements to most songs across difficulties will be implemented.

Unfortunately, this forces Harmonix to wipe the leaderboards entirely. In the future, the developer will be able to make song-specific changes on the back end.

The leaderboard reset won’t impact local saves. You’ll still have any full combo accomplishments. You’ll also retain that statistics related to how many times you’ve played songs.

When the update goes live, specific local song data will be overwritten the next time you play each track. On the plus side, Harmonix has teased another team-up like its in-game Fallout Vault Suit clothing.

Our Take
Wiping the leaderboards months after launch for a game that is so focused on score is a problem. It’s great that the problems are getting fixed, but games shouldn’t ship with “gnarly bugs.” Minor problems are going to happen, but when you start describing things in that way, it appears like the quality assurance team didn’t do its job.
