The Mysterious Helmet In Force Awakens Belongs To...

Writers J. J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan filled The Force Awakens' script with Star Wars history that the theatergoer has no knowledge of. Since the film's release last week, fans have been dissecting many of these mysteries, trying feverishly to make sense of them or find out how they relate to the history that we know and love.
One talking point centers on two items Rey interacts with when she relaxes outside of her home, which just happens to be the rusted-out remnants of an Imperial AT-AT. Leaning against one of the AT-AT's feet, Rey places an X-Wing helmet on her head and smiles. The helmet is a relic from the original trilogy era, leading many people to believe it may be her mother or father's – perhaps even Luke Skywalker's. We also see a doll of an X-Wing fighter pilot that she crafted.
We no longer need to speculate who this helmet belongs to. The newly released Star Wars: The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary says that the salvaged Rebel helmet once belonged to Captain Dosmit Ræh of the Tierfon Yellow Aces. The book also says Rey constructed the doll when she was 10 years old.
While it may seem like the helmet might belong to someone who we'll only hear about in a book or comic, seeing that it belonged to someone else with a name similar to Rey is mighty interesting. Did she name herself after what was written on this helmet? Speculate away, folks. We have at least two years to figure this one out.
