Corrin From Fire Emblem Fates Joins Smash Bros. Roster

by Tim Turi on Dec 15, 2015 at 10:06 AM

Fire Emblem Fates doesn't arrive on 3DS until next February, and now Nintendo is giving fans another morsel to further anticipate next year. Protagonist Corrin is coming to Smash Bros. as a playable fighter.

Nintendo showed off Corrin in action during a special Smash Bros.-centric Nintendo Direct video. Players can choose whether they want Corrin to be a male or female, just like in Fire Emblem Fates. Both versions of the character play identically.

Corrin wields the sword Yato, which is in its spikey, glowing form: Omega Yato. On top of this melee weapon, Corrin uses the Blood of Dragon Fang coursing through his/her veins to transform into an ancient reptilian beast. Depending on the attack, Corrin's specific limbs will become draconic while other times he/she will fully turn into a dragon. Corrin's Dragon Lunge side-smash attack is specifically far-reaching. In keeping with Fire Emblem gameplay mechanics, Corrin can also counter, which negates damage coming her way.

Torrential Roar is Corrin's Final Smash attack, which causes a huge cyclone of water to pull in nearby enemies before delivering big damage to them all at once. Corrin will be coming to both the Wii U and 3DS versions of Smash Bros. at $4.99 each (or in a bundle for $5.99), but 3DS owners will also get trophies for Fire Emblem Fates characters Ryoma and Xander. Fire Emblem Fates arrives on 3DS February 19, 2016, in the same month this Smash DLC hits.
