Work Has Started On The Next Battlefield, Due For Release In 2016

by Mike Futter on Dec 14, 2015 at 02:20 AM

Last week, EA made a huge move to formalize its role in competitive gaming by opening a new division headed by exectuive vice president Peter Moore. In that announcement, CEO Andrew Wilson named Battlefield as one of the properties that would be included.

As EA’s marquee shooter brand, it’s no surprise there’s more coming under that banner. But if you were concerned about EA holding to its commitment of a new title in 2016, DICE development director Dan Vanderlind put a fine point on it last week.

In July, EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen stated that a new title in the franchise is coming in 2016. With DICE at the helm, chances are this is a return to the traditional military setting rather than another offshoot like this year’s Visceral-helmed Battlefield Hardline.

Our Take
While we’ve known that a new Battlefield game was set for release in 2016, having a sense of the transition timing from one project to the next gives us a window into the development process. All signs point to the next Battlefield being a pillar of EA’s holiday 2016 offerings.
