Square Enix Is Selling Five-Game Mystery Bundles For $10

by Mike Futter on Dec 08, 2015 at 04:41 AM

Sure, the holidays are about giving, but it’s not uncommon for people to get a little something for themselves. The only problem with that is you know what’s in the box and there’s no surprise. Square Enix is trying to fix that.

The publisher has announced the 2015 Holiday Surprise Box. For $9.99, you’ll get a mystery bundle of five different PC games and “additional store offerings.”

The total value of the goodies is more than $80. You can roll the dice on the surprise box now through December 17 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. Your present will be delivered on December 18.

In 2013, the offer was extended to European customers. The €6.99 box included Tomb Raider, Just Cause 2, Hitman: Blood Money, and Dungeon Siege III.

In 2014, the bundle included Thief - The Master Thief Edition, The Last Remnant, Murdered: Soul Suspect, Lara Croft: Guardian of Light, Deus Ex - The Fall, and Nosgoth Founders - Warlord Pack. It also included three one-time use discount codes for specific titles.

You can purchase the bundle on Square Enix's store here.

Update: The surprise box is open, and here's what was inside:

  • Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
  • Thief
  • Final Fantasy XIII
  • Life is Strange Episode 1
  • Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Additionally, there were a few coupons included. Discounts offered include:

  • 20% off selected games*
  • 10% off Life is Strange episodes 2-5
  • 10% off Just Cause 3 (all editions)

Our Take
This concept is neat, and the cost is extremely accessible. Especially with the last two bundles including games released in the same here, there’s some incentive here. While I wouldn’t expect Just Cause 3 to be included, perhaps the excellent Life is Strange is one of the five games.
