Looks Like Max Payne Is An Upcoming PS2-On-PS4 Game

by Mike Futter on Dec 07, 2015 at 08:15 AM

Sam Lake’s infamous grimace is likely to get new life. Max Payne, Remedy’s hardboiled noir story, has been rated by the ESRB for release on PlayStation 4.

Released in 2001, Max Payne brought bullet time to the masses. Max’s story is tragic and his vengeance brutal, which made us fall in love the overwrought story and caricature personalities.

While publisher Take-Two hasn’t announced this formally, an ESRB rating is typically compelling evidence. Given the recent releases of a slate of PlayStation 2 titles playable PS4, this one falls squarely within the realm of likelihood.

Our Take
Max Payne’s bullet time cements the game’s legacy in the pantheon of gaming greats. It might not be quite as crisp as you recall, but getting another shot at the original shoot-dodging action seems like a fine idea.
