Final Fantasy VII Director Talks Cyber-Punk Roots And The Remake's Combat

by Kyle Hilliard on Dec 06, 2015 at 05:13 AM

Yoshinori Kitase, who directed the original Final Fantasy VII and is producing the remake, recently talked about the series' history and what to expect for the remake.

In the video below, which was released on PlayStation's YouTube channel as part of the 2015 PlayStation Experience, Kitase talked about the history of Final Fantasy and why VII was such a departure form the first six games. He also had a few ambiguous thing's to say about the remake's combat:

I can't say the new game is completely action-based, but it has more of that element and real-time than the previous game. However, what makes Final Fantasy and RPG different from other games is that players have the ability to choose weapons, capabilities, and magic to be strategic minded, so while the new game has more real-time element, it will also maintain that strategy building element, balancing these two factors perfectly to enhance the gaming experience.

The game is still in development, and we have not fully grasped all the abilities and upgrades made to PlayStation 4.

Kitase also talked about the Final Fantasy VII film, Advent Children, and how it served as a starting point for the remake's visual design.
