PSA: You Can Play Two Of StarCraft II: Legacy Of The Void's Modes For Free

by Ben Hanson on Nov 27, 2015 at 10:30 AM

Years ago, Blizzard announced that they were releasing a free version of StarCraft II called the "Starter Edition". While it doesn't get much attention, this free version of StarCraft II has been updated for the recent release of the final expansion called Legacy of the Void. Right now, the Starter Edition on Battle.net will let you play custom games of competitive Starcraft II with all of the updates and units found in Legacy of the Void.

The big qualifier here is that you can only play with friends, there aren't any match-making options. But since this is a free download, all you have to do is send this PSA story to a couple of RTS-appreciating friends and you'll be set.

The bonus on top of this whole offering is that the Starter Edition also gives players access to Legacy of the Void's co-op mode, which our reviewer Dan Tack called "great." You can only select from three of the six commander heroes, but you have access to all of the co-op missions and Blizzard says that they will be adding more missions in the future.
