Need For Speed Update Addresses Game's Big Flaw

by Matthew Kato on Nov 16, 2015 at 03:38 AM

Need for Speed came out last week, it wasn't quite the reboot I was hoping for, but developer Ghost Games says that it's working to fix at least one of the game's big problems.

In a official blog post, the developer says that the game's first major update (it's free) is coming by the end of November, and it addresses the game's obnoxious catch-up A.I. (also colloquially called rubberbanding).

Catch-up A.I. is prevalent throughout the game, whether someone roars back to the front during a checkpoint race or messes up your group drift score.

The update also includes more features for the wrap editor, neon parts, a rep increase for levels 50-60, more trophies/achievements, new preset wraps, and other general tweaks and improvements.

Our Take
It's good that Ghost Games wants to improve the title and has the relatively quick means to do so, but the fact that it was in the game in the first place is odd. When it was making NFS, did Ghost Games think that people would enjoy such aggressive catch-up A.I.? That's not the game's only questionable aspect, but at least this one's fixable.
