The National Video Game Museum Opens In Texas Next Month
The traveling Video Game History Museum exhibit has finally found a permanent home inside the Frisco Discovery Center in Frisco, Texas. The National Video Game Museum opens its doors there this winter, and boasts an immense collection chronicling the history of interactive entertainment.
The museum showcases over 100,000 games, consoles, and artifacts. Rare items include the only Sega Neptune prototype, the 1990 Nintendo World Championships cartridge, and an Atari Mindlink controller –one of only two in existence.
Visitors will be treated to more than 20 installations. Among them are the Pixel Dreams 1980's style arcade filled with classic cabinets. A physical console timeline provides a visual representation of the evolution of game consoles. More unique attractions include a 15-foot working Pong console, and even an exhibit of Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford’s actual office. STEM classes educate visitors on the values of science, technology, engineering, and math.
