[Confirmed] Street Fighter V Punches In February Release Date

by Mike Futter on Oct 27, 2015 at 07:19 AM

Update: Series producer Yoshinori Ono took the stage at Paris Games Week to confirm the news from just a little while ago. Street Fighter V will be out on February 16 in Europe and the Americas.

The unlockable characters, of which there are six, can be opened up for use with fight money. This can be earned in the game or purchased with real money. The teaser image below is ripe for speculation.

Original Story:

A report has surfaced out of Paris Games Week that Capcom has nailed down a date for Street Fighter V. If accurate, you can join the fight in February.

Eurogamer Portugal reported in a since removed story that the game has a February 16 release date. The story also included confirmation of Dhalsim, real-money transactions for "fight money," and six additional fighters to be added during 2016. We’ve reached out to the publisher for confirmation and will update should we receive a response.

Capcom has planned a number of beta periods for its PlayStation 4 and PC fighter. The first attempt was aborted due to problems, but Capcom took a mulligan and things seemed to improve for the next.

Another was held last weekend, with Capcom identifying widespread matchmaking issues. At least one more test will be held prior to release.

Our Take
A February 16 release puts Street Fighter V in the thick of other major releases. February already includes XCOM 2, Battleborn, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Far Cry Primal, and Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. There’s little doubt Street Fighter can hold its own if this does turn out to be the release date, though.
