Bungie Patches Destiny’s Anemic Nightfall Rewards

by Mike Futter on Oct 20, 2015 at 07:27 AM

Bungie just rolled out a patch that’s intended to make players interested in weekly Nightfall strikes again after lackluster loot drops drove people away. Rewards have been bumped, with weapon and armor drops now bearing increased stats.

All armor and weapon drops now have 10 additional defense and attack respectively. Your chance for a legendary just went up from 50 percent to 60 percent, you’ll get more strange coins and three of coins, and there’s a chance of getting a legendary Ghost shell.

You won’t see legendary engrams from a boss anymore, though. They’ll still drop their unique rewards. Also, those antiquated runes are gone from the loot table.

Nightstalker Hunters were hit with the nerf bat today. Extra shots have been temporarily removed to prevent unlimited Shadowshots. Sorry, Hunters.

For intrepid raiders, Hard Mode for King’s Fall goes live at 10 a.m. Pacific on October 23. Recommended light will be 310, reward drops will go up to 320. When you beat Oryx in Hard Mode, you’ll be assured a raid set drop.

You won’t need moldering shards. Those might still appear, but only if you haven’t finished normal mode for the week.

Finally, crucible bounty awards have been increased by 10 attack. You’ll get more strange coins, and now there is a chance of a legendary Ghost shell.

Hopefully, this will remedy the loot problems that have been keeping players away from some of the game’s core activities.

Our Take
Nightfalls were a regular part of my Destiny routine when I was actively playing. Hearing that rewards weren’t worth the effort was surprising, and hopefully this restores those weekly challenges to players’ schedules.
