Guitar Hero Live To Feature Fans Through In-Game Music Video

by Matt Miller on Oct 15, 2015 at 08:03 AM

Activision today announced plans to allow fans to take the next step into its upcoming music game in a very literal way. By submitting clips to the music video creation app, musical.ly, you have a chance to be featured in an in-game music video.

If you’re interested, it’s time to start learning the words to Ed Sheeran’s “Sing.” And if you’re brave enough, concocting a few dance moves certainly wouldn’t hurt. Then check in to the musical.ly app on your iOS, Android, or Amazon device and record your contribution. Between today and October 25, a music video editor will compile the submitted clips, select favorites, and pull the whole thing together into a fan-sourced video. That video will then appear in Guitar Hero Live’s playable music video network.

Looking to practice? Here’s the official video. We’re confident you can do better than that puppet.

Guitar Hero Live is set to release on PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, PS3, and Xbox 360 on October 20.

Our Take
Guitar Hero Live is the music game this year that is opting for dramatic changes rather than established practices. It remains to be seen how those innovations turn out, but this fan-made video idea is in line with Activision and Freestyle's broader strategy with the title, which focuses on trying to involve players in the in a live and up-to-date experience as they play through music. I predict some ridiculous looking people in the final video.
