In Fallout’s wasteland, bottle caps are the coin of the realm. You’ve either got them, or you find other (likely less savory) ways of surviving.

The bottle caps in question come from a number of beverages, but two stand out amongst Fallout fans: Nuka Cola and Sunset Sarsparilla. Holly Green (whom we’ve featured before, as she’s written a gaming-focused cook book) took on a craft project to bring a bit of the Wasteland into her house.

The stools were purchased blank, so Green didn’t need to paint over a logo. Using a custom-made stencil from an Etsy seller, model paint, and clear gloss.

The aging seen in the image above was achieved using newspaper ink, resin, and ash. With the clear coat on top, the smudges are sealed so they don’t come off on pants.

You can read Green’s entire, detailed process on her blog. There, she has additional images and specifics about where you can order the stencils and which paints worked well.
