Freddy Krueger Gets A New Figure Inspired By NES A Nightmare on Elm Street

by Joseph Knoop on Sep 29, 2015 at 08:33 AM

Freddy Krueger has come back to haunt the dreams of figure collectors and horror fans. Collectibles manufacturer NECA has announced a second Freddy Krueger toy from the NES adaptation of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

NECA previously released a 7-inch Freddy Krueger toy in 2013 based off of the same game, which was discontinued sometime after. The 2013 figure was originally sold as a companion to the San Diego Comic Con exclusive 7-inch Jason Voorhees 8-bit toy, modeled after the character's purple color scheme in the NES adaptation of Friday the 13th. In addition to the new 8-inch Freddy Krueger toy, an 8-inch Voorhees figure has also been made available for pre-order.

A Nightmare on Elm Street, which released on the NES in 1989, received mostly negative reviews. Despite that, the game remains a cult classic for its connection to the iconic horror villain.

In the game, players battled various forms of Freddy Krueger while attempting to stay awake with cups of coffee or finding boomboxes scattered around levels. The game received criticism for not living up to initial reports in Nintendo Power’s second issue that the player character would be Krueger, insinuating the game would be spent hunting down the teenagers of Elm Street.

The figure is now available on Toys “R” Us shelves in the NECA section. Check out NES-inspired photos in the gallery below.
