Sega Puts Brakes On Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice Until 2016

by Jeff Cork on Sep 15, 2015 at 10:10 AM

Sonic Boom didn't exactly set the world on fire when it released in late 2014, but Sega clearly saw potential in the concept. The publisher announced that the 3DS would be getting a sequel, Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, in 2015. Now, Sega has revealed that the game is slipping past that timeline, moving to 2016.

According to a post on the official Sega blog, the decision was made to give the game the time and polish it requires. "In the grand scheme of things, while the downside is that you won’t be playing the game this year, the upside is that what you’ll play next year, and what fans will continue to play for years after they pick up the game, will be a stronger, more enjoyable experience."

Our Take
It's hard to be upset about a delay when the publisher fully admits that it's because the game simply wouldn't be ready otherwise. Sonic fans have been burned time and time again; perhaps Sega is tired of taking a critical bruising as well. We'll find out in 2016, if it goes according to plan.
