[Update] Konami Working On MGS V Save Game Bug Patch

by Mike Futter on Sep 10, 2015 at 04:37 AM

Update 3: Konami has revealed a way to use Quiet on these two missions, also giving some clarity about exactly how this save-corrupting bug is triggered. Use caution if you decide to proceed with these tips, though.

"You may still safely use Quiet in these missions if you use the Butterfly Emblem throughout the mission or avoid raising your Bond Level with Quiet to MAX during the course of the mission," Konami advises. The publisher says it is working on both a patch and a way to recover or repair saved data affected by this problem.

Update 2Konami says its team is hard at work on a fix for this issue. No specific timeframe was offered for patch completion and rollout.

Update 1Konami's European Twitter account has put a finer point on the problem. If you use Quiet in either of these missions, you may find yourself with a corrupted save file.

Original Story (September 8, 2015 @ 9:30 a.m. Central):

Konami has alerted users that there is a game-breaking bug in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain affecting all platforms. The good news is that it is avoidable, the bad news is that the conditions for creating the problem aren’t obscure at all.

If you use Quiet as your buddy in mission 29 or 42, there is a chance that your game progress will be inhibited entirely. In the interest of our extremely spoiler sensitive readers, we won’t tell you how many possible buddies there are, but it isn’t a lot.

Konami does not explicitly say that a patch is in progress to fix this problem. Further announcements are expected. As soon as we know how and when the publisher plans to address this, we’ll update you.

We’ve reached out to Konami for any additional details.

Our Take
Given the limited number of buddies and the simple act of using Quiet on one of these two missions triggering the problem, I have to wonder how this made it through quality testing. Bad form, Konami.
