Take This Documentary Discusses The Importance Of Mental Health Care In Gaming Community

by Mike Futter on Sep 08, 2015 at 07:26 AM

At PAX Prime this year, Take This, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization providing mental-health service in the gaming community, premiered a documentary on the group's founding and mission in hopes of inspiring much-needed conversation. One in four people suffers from depression, anxiety, or another, similar illness. Take This was born from tragedy in our community and now works to prevent those that might happen in the future.

As one of its core activities, the organization attends a number of major conventions to host panels on mental health and an “AFK Room” for attendees. This is a safe, quiet space to get away from the noise and congestion of the show floor and decompress. In addition, mental-health professionals are available for counseling for those in need.

Since its founding in 2012, Take This has worked to help our community to become more comfortable discussing mental health, an issue deeply stigmatized in our society. The documentary above, It's Dangerous to Go Alone, helps fulfill the group's mission to educate and advocate.

You can learn more about Take This on the organization’s website. There, you'll also find mental-health information and resources.
