Nintendo Rebundles Wii U With Mario Kart 8 And DLC

by Mike Futter on Sep 08, 2015 at 03:13 AM

If you’re thinking of jumping on the Wii U train, Nintendo is sweetening the pot with a new Mario Kart 8 bundle. The new package comes with a digital version of the game and all of the currently available DLC.

The add-ons include nods to The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing. The former is represented by Link, a Hyrule cup, and the Master Cycle. The latter includes both male and female villagers, Isabelle, an Animal Crossing cup, and themed vehicles.

The bundles also include Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Dry Bowser, for a total of six characters, four cups (sixteen tracks), and eight vehicles. The bundle is available now for $299.99.

Our Take
Nintendo has been stubborn on the price of the Wii U, but at least it’s sweetening the pot for bundled software. Without a major hook this holiday season for new buyers, Nintendo is going to have a tough time against its competition. I expect solid software sales, but weakening hardware traffic unless the price comes down.
