Minecraft Updates Merging Worlds Of Windows 10, Pocket Editions

by Jeff Cork on Sep 08, 2015 at 05:14 AM

Microsoft has announced a few details about its upcoming Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta and Pocket Edition updates, which will give social-minded players some big new options when it comes to playing with friends.

Version 0.12.1 is adding cross-platform multiplayer with up to five players for those versions of the game, provided everyone is on the same local network.

The Pocket Edition update is also adding weather effects, such as snow accumulation; golems and ocelots; as well as the ability to enchant items using enchanting tables. Players will be able to sneak and sprint as part of the update's controller tweaks.

Our Take
It's nice to see these versions creep toward feature parity with Minecraft proper. The cross-platform functionality in particular is cool, and it's bound to keep kids distracted from their studies at school.
