Pikmin 4 Is Coming, ‘Very Close To Completion’

Despite not cracking falling short of sales expectations, Pikmin 3 is getting a follow-up. Famed developer Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that Pikmin 4 isn’t just in development, it’s probably not that far off.

Speaking in just-published statement made to Eurogamer that took place in July, Miyamoto reveals his team has been hard at work on the title. “[Pikmin 4 is] actually very close to completion," Miyamoto said. "Pikmin teams are always working on the next one."

The publisher re-confirmed that it is in development in a statement to the publication. According to Nintendo’s most recent software sales update, Pikmin 3 hasn’t cracked the 1 million sales mark.

What Nintendo hasn’t said is whether the fourth entry in the series is planned for Wii U. With the NX in development, the publisher could be hoping to launch its new console Olimar and friends.

Our Take
If Pikmin 4 is that far into development and Nintendo isn’t talking about it, I would be surprised if it were planned as a Wii U title. With weaker sales of its Wii U predecessor, Nintendo would do well to keep it back for the next console where it might have a fighting chance as a launch title.
