[Update] Konami Says MGS V Server Maintenance Is Complete, But Problems Still Possible

by Mike Futter on Sep 04, 2015 at 06:29 AM

Update: Konami is now reporting on its server status website that all five platforms are "operating normally." However, the publisher hedges against that statement, indicating that online connectivity problems may still occur. As we see blow, the issues are not fixed.

"Online servers have been upgraded," a comment on the server website states. "Measures have been taken to reduce burden on the database. These measures may result in it taking some time for data to be applied to FOBs (staff acquired/resources/FOB expansion/security settings, etc.). There may still be some issues when attempting to connect to online features,so we will continue to provide up-to-date notifications on server operating status."

Konami has not updated its UK and North American social network feeds with this news, despite earlier protestations that updates would be made available. We're continuing to monitor this issue, as it seems things aren't completely stable yet.

The publisher also says it has no comment on why users are still experiencing problems, instead referring us to the server status page.

Update (9/4/2015 @ 11 a.m. Central): Despite Konami's assurances that servers are working on all platforms except PlayStation 4, users are still having trouble connecting. For many, the server maintenance message has simply been replaced with a failure to connect error.

We've reached out to Konami for clarification and an update. We'll share the response should we receive one.

Update (9/4/2015 @ 9:34 a.m. Central): Konami is now reporting that servers on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC are "operating normally." You can see the server status below.

We are continuing to monitor the situation and taking feedback from users about real-world experience. Let us know in the comments if you are having success with Ground Zeroes save transfers and FOB features.

Original Story (9/4/2015 @ 8:34 a.m. Central):

It’s been four days since Metal Gear Solid V hit retail and digital storefronts. In that time, fans have had a split reaction, adoring the gameplay but reviling the in-app transactions and related poor online performance.

Yesterday, we reported that Konami was experiencing more severe issues with the Xbox versions of the game. That seems to be resolving, as the server status page has been updated for one of the five platforms.

Konami never returned our request for comment on the Xbox issues, nor has it pushed this server update to its English social media as it assured us it would. We’ll continue to monitor this and update as server status changes.

Our Take
Konami is dropping the ball on communication with fans, especially after promising updates via all of its social channels. Hopefully the launch problems are starting to resolve, but when Metal Gear Solid Online is finally released, Konami needs to have its ducks in a row.
